Limits

What GIF can and cannot hold.

GIF holds at most 256 colours per frame. Photos are reduced to the 256 that represent them best, and dithering hides the steps.
Transparency is on or off per pixel. Soft, semi-transparent edges become either solid or clear.
This tool saves one still frame. Animated WebP files are converted as their first frame.
