WebP was 11 to 14 times smaller than PNG and about half the size of JPG for these photos. Graphics with flat colour shrink less, but still usually beat PNG.

Browsers

Saving WebP works best in Chrome, Edge or Firefox.

Every current browser shows WebP, but not every browser can save it from a web page; Safari in particular may refuse. If the tool reports that, open this page in Chrome, Edge or Firefox.

FAQ

Questions people ask first.

How do I convert PNG to WebP?
Drop the PNG files into the tool above, set the quality and download the WebP files, one by one or as a ZIP.
Does PNG to WebP keep transparency?
Yes. WebP supports transparency, so see-through areas stay see-through.
What quality should I use?
80 to 90 for photos; the result looks the same as the original at a fraction of the size. For logos and screenshots, use 90 or more to keep edges crisp.
Do all browsers support WebP?
Yes, all current browsers display WebP, including Safari since 2020, so it is safe to use on a website.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Your browser opens and converts the images on your own device. Nothing is sent to Daniotech or anyone else.
