How to

Convert PNG to GIF.

  1. 1Choose your .png files, or drop them on the box. Up to 50 at once.
  2. 2Keep Dither on for photos; graphics with 256 colours or fewer keep their exact colours automatically.
  3. 3Download each GIF, or Download all to get one ZIP file.

How it works

Exact where possible, smart where not.

The tool counts the colours in your PNG first. A logo, icon or chart with 256 colours or fewer is saved with exactly those colours, so nothing changes. A photo with thousands of colours is reduced with a median-cut palette (the 256 colours that best cover the picture) and, if you want, dithered.

  • Transparent pixels stay transparent; partly transparent pixels become fully clear or fully solid, because GIF has no soft transparency.
  • The result is a single still frame.
  • Want a smaller file for a website instead? PNG to WebP keeps soft transparency and is usually far smaller than GIF.

FAQ

Questions people ask first.

How do I convert PNG to GIF?
Drop the PNG into the tool above and download the GIF. Several PNG files can be converted at once.
Does PNG to GIF keep transparency?
Yes. Fully transparent areas stay transparent. Soft edges become hard because GIF has only on/off transparency.
Will my logo’s colours change?
Not if it has 256 colours or fewer; they are kept exactly. Only images with more colours are reduced.
Can I make an animated GIF from several PNGs?
Not with this tool; it saves one still image per PNG.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Your browser opens and converts the images on your own device. Nothing is sent to Daniotech or anyone else.
