Resize image to 20KB

Drop in a photo or signature and get a JPG under 20KB, at the highest quality that fits. Type exact pixels if your form asks for them, or change the target to any other KB size. Nothing is uploaded: the resizing happens in your browser.

Image resizer to 20KB

Settings

The file will be at most this size. 1 KB = 1,000 bytes, so it also passes forms that count 1,024.

Optional. Leave both empty to keep the size; fill one to keep the shape; fill both for an exact size a form asks for (the picture is centred and trimmed to that shape, never stretched).

How to

Resize an image to 20KB in three steps.

  1. 1Choose the image, or drop it on the box. JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF all work, and you can add up to 50 at once.
  2. 2If the form gives a pixel size (for example 200 × 230 for a photo or 140 × 60 for a signature), type it in Width and Height. Otherwise leave them empty.
  3. 3Download the JPG. Its size is shown next to the file, so you can see it is under 20KB before you upload it.

Behind the scenes the tool saves a JPG at quality 92 first. If that is too big it searches down to quality 40 for the highest setting that fits. If even quality 40 is over 20KB, it reduces the pixel size by just enough and searches again. It never goes over the limit you set.

What fits

How many pixels fit in 20KB.

The highest JPG quality (out of 100) that kept each photo at or under 20,000 bytes. Above about 80 a photo looks like the original; below about 40 blocks start to show.

Measured on 17 October 2026 with Pillow 11.3 (libjpeg-turbo, libavif) on three 1024 × 1024 product photos. Browsers use their own encoders, so your sizes will differ somewhat; Chrome’s PNGs, for example, come out larger than these.

The rule of thumb: for a 20KB photo, aim for 300 to 400 pixels on the long side. Detailed photos (fabric, leaves, hair) need fewer pixels than plain ones (a face on a light wall).

Before you upload

Check these three things in the form’s notice.

  • The size range. Job, exam and visa portals often ask for photos of 20KB to 50KB and signatures of 10KB to 20KB. Some set a minimum as well as a maximum.
  • The pixel size. If it is fixed, type it in and turn off “Allow fewer pixels”, so only the quality changes.
  • The format. Most forms want JPG or JPEG, which is what this tool saves. A .jfif file is also a JPEG; rename it with the JFIF to JPG converter.

Need more room? The 50KB compressor keeps more detail for photos where the limit allows it.

FAQ

Questions people ask first.

How do I resize an image to 20KB?
Open the image in the tool above. It saves a JPG at the highest quality that stays under 20KB, and makes the picture smaller in pixels only if lowering the quality is not enough. If your form asks for exact pixels, type the width and height first. Then press Download.
How do I compress an image to 20KB without losing quality?
A full-size photo cannot fit in 20KB without some loss, so the aim is loss you cannot see. Keep the picture small in pixels (about 300 to 400 pixels on the long side for a photo) and the JPG quality can stay high. The tool picks that balance for you.
What pixel size is a 20KB image?
It depends on the photo. In our tests a 300 × 300 pixel photo fitted in 20KB at JPG quality 65 to 94, a 400 × 400 photo at quality 32 to 84, and a 600 × 600 photo only at quality 10 to 41, which looks blocky. Passport-style photos such as 200 × 230 pixels fit easily.
Is 20KB 20,000 bytes or 20,480 bytes?
Both are used: macOS and many websites count 1KB as 1,000 bytes, Windows and some forms count 1,024. The tool keeps the file at or under 20,000 bytes, so it passes either check.
My form says the photo must be between 10KB and 20KB. Will this work?
Usually, yes. Because the tool chooses the highest quality that fits, the result normally lands just under the limit rather than far below it. If a file comes out under the minimum, enter a larger width and height so there is more detail to keep.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. The image is opened, resized and saved by your own browser. Nothing is sent to Daniotech or anyone else, and the tool keeps working if you go offline after the page loads.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes, on Android and iPhone browsers. iPhone photos in HEIC format open in Safari; other browsers may not read HEIC, so choose Most Compatible in the camera settings or send the photo to yourself as a JPG first.
