JPG to PNG converter
Settings
No settings needed. PNG is lossless, so the picture is kept exactly as the browser decodes it, at the same width and height, transparency included.
How to
Convert JPG to PNG in three steps.
- 1Choose your .jpg or .jpeg files, or drop them on the box.
- 2Wait a moment while each one is saved as a PNG. The new size is shown next to it.
- 3Download each PNG, or Download all to get one ZIP file.
When to use PNG
Good reasons to convert, and one bad one.
- You will edit it many times. Every JPG save loses a little; PNG saves lose nothing, so convert once and work on the PNG.
- A site or app asks for PNG. Some design tools, icon slots and print services accept PNG only.
- You want to add transparency later. PNG can hold it; JPG cannot. The conversion itself does not remove any background.
- Not to make a photo look better. The PNG is an exact copy of the JPG’s pixels, only bigger. To make a photo smaller instead, use the 50KB compressor.
Size
How much bigger the PNG will be.
| Photo, 1024 × 1024 | JPG, quality 90 | PNG | PNG is |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shawl photo | 145.6 KB | 912.2 KB | 6.3 × bigger |
| Shoe photo | 227.5 KB | 1,462.1 KB | 6.4 × bigger |
| Leather jacket | 261.8 KB | 1,355.2 KB | 5.2 × bigger |
Measured on 17 October 2026 with Pillow 11.3 (libjpeg-turbo, libavif) on three 1024 × 1024 product photos. Browsers use their own encoders, so your sizes will differ somewhat; Chrome’s PNGs, for example, come out larger than these.
Screenshots, logos and drawings with flat colour are the exception: they often come out smaller as PNG than as JPG, and they look sharper.
FAQ
Questions people ask first.
- How do I convert JPG to PNG?
- Drop the JPG or JPEG files into the tool above and press Download. Each one is saved as a PNG with the same width, height and pixels. For several files, Download all gives you one ZIP.
- Does converting JPG to PNG lose quality?
- No. PNG is lossless, so the picture is stored exactly as it was decoded. It does not get better either: any blur or blockiness already in the JPG stays in the PNG.
- Why is the PNG so much bigger than the JPG?
- PNG stores every pixel without throwing detail away, while JPG drops detail you would not notice. In our tests a photo was 5.2 to 6.4 times bigger as a PNG than as a quality-90 JPG. For photos, keep JPG unless something asks for PNG.
- Will the PNG have a transparent background?
- No. A JPG has no transparency, so the white or coloured background becomes white or coloured pixels in the PNG. Removing a background is a separate step done in an image editor.
- How do I convert JPG to PNG on Windows or Mac without a website?
- On Windows, open the image in Paint and choose File → Save as → PNG picture. On a Mac, open it in Preview, choose File → Export and pick PNG. This tool is quicker for many files at once.
- Are my images uploaded?
- No. Your browser decodes the JPG and saves the PNG on your own device. Nothing is sent to Daniotech or anyone else.
