HEIC to PNG converter
Settings
No settings needed. PNG is lossless, so the picture is kept exactly as the browser decodes it, at the same width and height, transparency included.
How to
Convert HEIC to PNG.
- 1Choose your .heic files, or drop them on the box. Up to 50 at once.
- 2Most browsers cannot read HEIC, so the page downloads a HEIC decoder the first time you add one. That takes a moment; after that, each photo converts in a second or two.
- 3Download each PNG, or Download all to get one ZIP file.
About HEIC
Why iPhones save HEIC.
HEIC is the default photo format on iPhone since iOS 11 in 2017: photos stored in HEIF, the High Efficiency Image File Format. A HEIC photo takes roughly half the space of a JPEG at the same look. The catch: Windows, many websites and older apps do not open it.
- PNG is lossless and opens everywhere, which makes it a safe choice for editing. It is also large: a 12 megapixel photo is typically 10 to 20 MB as PNG.
- For sharing or uploading, a JPG is far smaller. Drop the HEIC into the 1MB compressor or the 200KB compressor: both accept HEIC and save JPG.
- To stop the iPhone saving HEIC: Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible. New photos are then JPG.
FAQ
Questions people ask first.
- How do I convert HEIC to PNG?
- Drop the HEIC photos into the tool above. The page loads a HEIC decoder in your browser, converts each photo to PNG and lets you download them one by one or as a ZIP.
- Does HEIC to PNG lose quality?
- No visible quality: PNG is lossless, so it stores the photo exactly as decoded. Depth maps, Live Photo motion and burst frames are not carried over; you get the main still picture.
- Why is the PNG so big?
- HEIC is very efficient and PNG is lossless. Expect the PNG to be roughly ten times the size of the HEIC. If you need a small file, convert to JPG instead.
- Is location data kept?
- No. Converting through the browser keeps only the pixels, so GPS location and camera details are left behind.
- Are my photos uploaded?
- No. Your browser opens and converts the photos on your own device. Nothing is sent to Daniotech or anyone else.
