EXIF remover
Settings
No settings needed. JPG and PNG files are cleaned without re-compressing: GPS location, camera, dates, XMP, IPTC and comments go; the colour profile and the rotation flag stay. Other formats are re-saved as JPG, which drops everything.
How to
Remove EXIF data from a photo.
- 1Choose your photos, or drop them on the box. Up to 50 at once.
- 2Each JPG or PNG is cleaned straight away; the list shows what was found, such as GPS location or the camera model.
- 3Download the cleaned photos, or Download all as a ZIP.
What is removed
Out goes the personal data; the picture stays exactly the same.
| Data | Result |
|---|---|
| GPS location | Removed |
| Camera make and model, lens, settings | Removed |
| Date and time taken | Removed |
| XMP and IPTC (editing history, captions, author) | Removed |
| Comments and PNG text notes | Removed |
| Rotation flag | Kept on its own, so the photo still shows the right way up |
| Colour profile | Kept, so colours do not shift |
| The picture itself | Untouched: byte for byte the same image data |
JPG and PNG files are cleaned by removing the metadata blocks, not by re-saving, so there is no quality loss. Other formats (WebP, HEIC, AVIF) are re-saved as JPG at quality 92, which also leaves all metadata behind.
Why it matters
Your photo may say where you live.
Phones with location turned on for the camera write the exact place a photo was taken into the file. Many social networks strip it when you post, but email attachments, messaging apps that send the original file, cloud links, forums and marketplaces often keep it. Cleaning photos before sharing them is a one-step habit.
FAQ
Questions people ask first.
- How do I remove EXIF data from a photo?
- Drop the photo into the tool above and download the cleaned copy. JPG and PNG files are cleaned without being re-compressed.
- How do I remove the location from a photo?
- The GPS location is part of the EXIF data, so this tool removes it. The list shows “GPS location” for photos that had one.
- Does removing EXIF reduce quality?
- No, for JPG and PNG: the image data is copied untouched and only the metadata blocks are taken out.
- Will my photo turn sideways?
- No. The rotation flag is kept on its own, without any of the personal data, so the photo still shows the right way up.
- Is my photo uploaded to check its EXIF?
- No. The file is read and cleaned in your browser; it never leaves your device.
